Lecture review: Mupimup Design

Mupimup is a design studio based on the east coast of Iceland, Stodvarfjordur, run by a textile and ceramic designer, Rosa Valtingojer and a graphic designer, Zdenek Patak.
Their design approach focused on post-consumerism and recycling industrial waste.

Their focuses are using a place and materials in local, providing the centre people gather and find out creative and sustainable approaches.
Creative approaches can change people's behaviour more ethical and ecological. One of their examples is the product made of recycled pet-bottles. In the EC and the UK, there are only 30% recycles for whole consumption of pet bottles. They applied pets as a material of the lampshade and presented it at the exhibition.
They are now focusing on establishing the new art centre of which is renovated from an old fish factory and lots of outlets. The space contains a coffee house, a shop sells local products, studio spaces and a fish market. Skills of creativity will be gathered and sheared. This will be an alternative way to find out new approach as a designer or an artist rather than living in the capital.
It seems that there might no longer be dichotomy either local or capital unless people in local are very open-minded and accept something liberal, and artists and designers can also well communicate with them ethically. Everywhere will be the place to dispatch one innovative and experimental approach of creativeness by artists and designers, and this project will be the ignition of the new role of creativeness.
